Hi ladies. Can you please teach me how to pray? This is one of the most common questions we get from fellow Christians.Everyone wants to know how to pray and what to pray about? Simple right? NOPE.We all know that life is full of troubles. We all struggle with daily issues and concerns about our health, safety, family, finances, work, relationships, spiritual lives etc. In light of that, what should we do? The Answer: Pray! When you go into your prayer closet, you know where that it is,for me it’s anywhere and everywhere because I live by 1 Thessalonians 5:17,Pray without ceasing, whenever I feel like praying,I pray. When you are in your quiet time in your prayer closet, tell God and tell Him what you need. So what is prayer? It's a time to tell God your needs which is also known as a prayer of petition. A prayer of petition is a prayer making our request or requests known to God for a particular need or needs. So when we come to God in petition we are asking him to do something either for ourselves or others. The Bible is clear that God wants us to tell Him what we need. God often encourages us to come to Him for whatever we need in His Holy Word whether it is big or small (e.g., Phil. 4:6). 1 John 5:14 guides us to pray for things that are in accordance with His will, and His Word is where we find His will.
Philippians 4:6-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Part of my journey to a deeper, more intimate relationship with Christ has been learning to tell Him the whole truth, each and every day.Prayer is the way by which God helps us to overcome our anxiety and worry.Prayer focuses our hearts on God and reminds us of our absolute dependence upon our heavenly Father for everything.Maybe that is why Philippians 4:7 says that when we pray with thankful anticipation, “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”When we know God’s will from His Word, we can pray with greater faith, knowing that we are aligned with His purposes. When we pray, we come before God’s throne, seated in heavenly places. You see, because of what Jesus did for us, we have this great gift. Don’t cast it aside or consider nothing, because it is a great gift. Because of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit we are privileged to come before the Lord, making our requests known to Him, lifting up our praises and offering our thanksgiving. Hallelujah.

God wants us to have a relationship with Him and He wants our fellowship. By having a relationship and a fellowship we can talk to Him about anything. It's just like when you make a new friend, you talk to them about anything, when the relationship deepens you get more comfortable to ask for certain things for example a lift to the mall. But to get to that stage you have to grow the relationship, hangout, talk etc.Our requests are important because God is interested in us and everything that concerns us.God loves us and takes our concerns to heart just because we are His children. This is the nature of a personal and loving relationship. The relationship is not one of domination or manipulation but of participation and cooperation where we become co-labourers with God (1 Cor. 3:9).It is so because God created us to have a relationship with us where we communicate with Him but also to grant us what we need according to His will.
We are told over and over again in the Scripture to tell God what we need. I have faithfully followed this command by presenting my requests to God daily. But sadly, when I was a baby in Christ ,looking back, it was my habit that if I did not receive an answer within my time frame I would then “lose heart” and stop praying assuming that God was not going to answer my prayers .Don't lose faith, keep praying and trust God and trust the process. He is a God that answers by Fire,so He will answer you in His time, which is always the best time.God bless.
